Depute First Minister, Cabinet Secretary for Health & Well-being Nicola Sturgeon MSP took some time off her busy schedule to drop in on Paterson Park Allotments.

Nicola was in town to open the new Renfrew Health & Social Work Centre with Renfrewshire Council Leader Derek Mackay.

Cabinet Secretary for Health & Well-being Nicola Sturgeon MSP said;

"It was a pleasure to see the Paterson Park Allotments, which are an excellent example of community-led allotments. The environment was beautiful, and the range and quality of fruit and vegetable being grown remarkable. The patrons of the allotments have done a fantastic job, and the allotments are well worth a look. Located close to the health centre, staff and patients can overlook the plots and enjoy the display. In terms of health and well-being it ticks all the boxes."

Council Leader Derek Mackay said;

"I was delighted the Cabinet Secretary was able to visit the allotments

Alfie Smith, Paterson Park Allotment Chairperson said:

"I was delighted to welcome Nicola Sturgeon to the allotments, of course Derek Mackay is no stranger, serving as one of our judges. We showed the Minister around, and I'm sure she was impressed. It was a nice surprise to have her visit and have the encouragement."

The visit included the presence of many other significant figures, one of which was another friendly face in the community,  Renfrewshire Councillor Bill Perrie.

Paterson Park Allotments feel truly honoured to have had the pleasure of Nicola Sturgeon’s visit.

on the day we opened the new Health and Social Work Centre, which were in tip-top condition after their annual open day last week. As a judge I knew Nicola would be impressed with the allotments, which must be amongst the best in the country. Over the years the team at the plots have built up the environment, erecting fencing and pathways, whilst cultivating the soil for growing. The allotments just get better and better.”
